Biography,Filmography

A flawless beauty with a down-to-earth attitude, Jessica Biel found success on the small screen portraying Mary Camden, the mostly level-headed eldest daughter of a progressive minister, on the long-running WB drama “7th Heaven” (1996- ) before taking on the big screen in films such as “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (2003) and “Blade: Trinity” (2004). Named one of People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People” in 1999 and Esquire magazine’s “Sexiest Woman Alive” in 2005, Biel’s stunning features and curvaceous figure made her one of Hollywood’s most sought-after young actresses. Receiving critical praise for her role opposite Edward Norton in “The Illusionist” (2006), Biel proved that she was more than just a pretty face.

Born March 3, 1982 in Ely, MN to Jon and Kim Biel, Biel’s family moved around during her childhood, living in six different states. Spending most of her formative years in Boulder, CO, Biel would later call the Rocky Mountain town home. An active and adventurous child, Biel began taking dance and voice lessons as a young girl. Obsessed with the musical “Annie,” Biel landed a gig as an understudy for the role in a Connecticut production of the play at the age of eight. Signing with a Denver talent agency at the age of 11, Biel started modeling and attended an International Modeling & Talent Association convention in 1994, where she won an acting scholarship to attend the Young Actor’s Space in Los Angeles. Biel spent the next three years commuting between LA and Colorado, balancing acting classes and auditions with schoolwork. Her hard work on her craft eventually paid off; in the same week, Biel landed the part of Mary Camden on the WB series “7th Heaven” (1996- ), as well as a role in the feature film, “Ulee’s Gold” (1997) opposite Peter Fonda, in which she played his troubled granddaughter Casey – the polar opposite of Mary Camden. During her high school years being tutored on the set of “Heaven,” Biel bonded with co-star Beverly Mitchell in between scenes.

Raising eyebrows in 2000, Biel posed semi-nude for a cover and photo layout in Gear magazine in an attempt to shed her wholesome image and, reportedly, be released from her “Heaven” contract. Because the show was religious in nature and a big hit w/ conservative viewers, her Gear portfolio enraged some, but her alleged ploy worked. She ultimately negotiated a reduced, recurring role on the series, allowing her to attend college and focus on feature films instead. Biel enrolled at Massachusetts’ Tufts University in 2000, returning to LA at the end of her freshman year to finish out the show’s sixth season. Leaving school to focus on her acting career, Biel went on to find work in a number of feature films. Adding a bit of sexy zest, she portrayed Freddie Prinze, Jr.’s fantasy girl in the otherwise dreary baseball comedy, “Summer Catch” (2001) and took on her edgiest project then to date, appearing as promiscuous college student Lara Halleran in writer-director Roger Avary's blunt, sex-soaked adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ “The Rules of Attraction” (2002).

Finding more mainstream box office success, Biel starred as Erin, the central scream queen, in the hit remake of the 1974 cult horror film, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (2003), followed by her appearance in the supposed thriller, “Cellular” (2004). Biel played the spurned romantic interest of a man (Chris Evans) who gets thrown into a high-stakes chase after receiving a random call on his cell phone. Thankfully, her small part in this forgettable actioner went virtually unnoticed, with no harm done to her career. In “Blade: Trinity” (2004), the third installment in the popular B-movie franchise, her role of Abigail Whistler, leader of a group of human vampire hunters who team up with Blade (Wesley Snipes) to do battle with undead thugs, proved to be Biel’s most physical role to date. Not surprisingly, the athletic beauty was more than up for the challenge of months of pre-production training. Next, Biel starred opposite Jamie Foxx and Josh Lucas as a fighter pilot in the less-than-memorable CG action flick “Stealth” (2005), a lowbrow cross between "Top Gun" (1986) and "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968), followed by a part opposite her “Cellular” co-star and rumored boyfriend Evans in the critically-panned “London” (2005).

Faring better with her next film, Biel took on a supporting role in Cameron Crowe’s “Elizabethtown” (2005). Though the film itself was savaged by critics and did not make the usual Crowe bank that Hollywood had come to expect from the director, Biel was singled out for her performance as the beautiful girlfriend of a whiz-kid athletic shoe designer (Orlando Bloom) whose ardor cools when her boyfriend experiences a colossal failure. Taking on her first serious period role in 2006, Biel landed the role of Viennese princess Sophie in “The Illusionist” (2006), starring opposite respected actor Edward Norton and once again impressing critics with her abilities as a serious actress.

Justin Timberlake speaks out about Britney, women
BY: Actress Archives | Wednesday, September 19, 2007

Though he enjoys a love-hate relationship with the media, Justin Timberlake has finally broken his silence to the tabloid media on the topics they have been desperate to know about. Timberlake offered up a sneak peek into his thoughts on his girlfriends, both past and present.

But it wasn't a tabloid newspaper that scored the saucy interview with Justin Timberlake. JT visited The Oprah Winfrey Show where he dished about the fact that he's not single at the moment. "I'm dating someone" the SexyBack singer stated. He didn't quite manage to mention the name of his squeeze, but did say, "all I can tell you is she smells lovely."

Justin Timberlake, who was most recently romantically linked to Jessica Biel, said, "I get pretty romantic around her," admitting that he sings for his new girl. He also said that when they are apart because of his tour, he keeps in touch with an iChat webcam. "Technology is a wonderful thing sometimes." Timberlake added, "I find that to be really cool, when you can actually see someone's face. I do it with my friends, as well, just to have a conversation back and forth. It just makes you feel closer, that's all."

It has been widely rumored that Justin Timberlake has been linked to Jessica Biel ever since JT decided to invite Biel and his mother to dinner after the MTV Video Music Awards. That is in keeping with a People magazine source who said back in May that, ""Justin's in love. He wants to be with her all the time. He's ready to be serious."

Onto the hot topic of his ex-girlfriend, Oprah Winfrey asked, "What do you think is going on with Britney?" Justin Timberlake replied, "I don't know, to be honest with you." Timberlake admitted that, "I haven't spoken to her in years. I mean, there's no ill will - I have nothing but love for her. It's funny because we dated each other at a time ... wow, I haven't talked about this in a long time. It's interesting." Timberlake admitted, "I think [famous teenagers] is basically the best way to describe what happened to us. I think she's a great person, and I don't know her as well as I did. What I do know about her is she has a huge heart, and she is a great person."

People magazine released Best Dressed list
BY: Actress Archives | Wednesday, September 12, 2007

It comes as no surprise when names like Beyonce Knowles, Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani are thrown among the best dressed stars of the year. People magazine made it official that all three women are "Best" side of People magazine's "Best & Worst Dressed of 2007" double issue, which his store shelves on Friday.

As well as Beyonce, J. Lo and Gwen, other big names like Katie Holmes, Jessica Biel, Penelope Cruz and Drew Barrymore made the list as some of the best dressed celebrities of the year. Reese Witherspoon, Cameron Diaz and Ali Larter were also on the good side of the list, with their fashion prowess being hailed by the popular magazine. Fox News quoted the magazine, which said that, "Whether classic or continental, girl-next-door or glam," all the celebrities named to the list have made the right fashion movies throughout the year.

It's not just women who are being praised for their fashion sense. America's newest British hunk David Beckham has been named to the list of sharp dressers, as has Terrence Howard. Popular Hollywood hunks like Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt and George Clooney were also graced with an nod on the fashion list. These men have made a point of being dressed sharp and smart every time the step in front of a camera, be it in full-on suits and tuxedos, or if its a pair of slacks and a T-shirt.

When it comes to best-dressed couples, Brad Pitt found his way into another 'Best' list with his partner Angelina Jolie. Gwen Stefani and her husband Gavin Rossdale also made the cut, as did newlyweds Eva Longoria and Tony Parker. Halle Berry and her boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry, were noted for their fashion sense. While the couples were being given attention, a separate list was compiled for the "British Accent" of fashion, which stems from across the pond. Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, Lily Allen, Kate Middleton and Emma Watson were all given the thumbs on their wardrobe.

As for the fashion "don'ts", look no further than Sienna Miller and her black hot pants. Or, in the world of music, Avril Lavigne seems to have fallen out of grace. Instead of sticking to her standard t-shirt and tie, Lavigne shocked fashion critics with a frilly dress and combat boots. Not exactly on the fashion field, Avril. Others who were noted for the stunning failures of wardrobes include Janet Jackson and Kirsten Dunst, both of whom were accused of wearing the "worst red carpet dresses" of the year.

Jessica Biel set to strip for 'Powder Blue'
BY: Actress Archives | Monday, August 20, 2007

After her unforgettable role in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, Jessica Biel must have been on the minds of men around the world. The only problem came from the fact that Biel had been against doing nudity on camera. While we've all heard of no-nudity clauses, Jessica Biel has signed something that is exactly the opposite.

A recent report indicates that Jessica Biel has signed on for her next movie, Powder Blue. While that might not be exciting, what is quite titillating is the fact Biel's contract outlines, in quite specific detail, just how much nudity she will be showing off for the role. According to reports in Us Weekly, there is going to be quite the helping of Jessica Biel's nude body.

Powder Blue, an ensemble drama that features Jessica Biel as a stripper who got into the profession to raise money to save her terminally ill son, also features Forest Whitaker, Ray Liotta and Patrick Swayze. For her role in the movie, Us Weekly reports that, "The actress, 25, signed a contract that explicitly details the bare minimum fans will see - including shots of her breasts (nipples from the front and side) and her butt (side view only)." A source said that the film's director, Timothy Linh Bui, wants even more, but "Jessica will decide if she wants to show anything additional."

Jessica Biel seemingly became camera shy about nudity after a controversial photo shoot back in 200 for Gear magazine, in which she bared quite a bit of skin. After the pictures hit newsstands, Biel said she felt "humiliated" by the images. In an interview with New Zealand outlet, Stuff, Jessica Biel said that she worried about how her family would react to on-screen nudity. "definitely worry about how my family would react. You can't help thinking about your dad or brother seeing something."

As recently as a week ago, Biel said, "I don't have to be fully naked for the movie. I haven't decided exactly about the nudity. It's a tough one. I'm considering it but it's a very scary thing to do. It definitely feels vulnerable to be naked in front of anybody, let alone a film crew."

Jessica Biel Stays the Sexy Course, Set to Star in "Nailed"
BY: Actress Archives | Monday, November 5, 2007

Lately, it seems Jessica Biel has really been embracing her sexy side. Of course it all started in 2000 when she revolted against 7th Heaven by appearing topless in Gear magazine. But then she kinda downplayed her sexuality, appearing in scattered semi-sultry scenes here and there, but never really blossoming as an onscreen sexpot.

Until this year.

First the I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry trailer came out. You all know what we're talking about, even if you didn't see the film (btw, for your sake, we hope you didn't). Then it was announced that Biel would be appearing nude in 2008's Powder Blue. Woah, digest that last sentence for a second, and when an official release date comes out, postpone your planned suicide or high-risk activity until after that day.

The big news today sees the beautiful actress continuing on this very fan-friendly trend. Though we're not sure exactly how naked she'll get, she's in talks to star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in David O. Russell's political satire, Nailed.

OK, we know, "political satire" doesn't exactly scream out sexy, but hold your horses. Biel is set to play a small-town receptionist who gets a case of spontaneous sexual excitation after she is accidentally shot in the head with a nail gun. She goes to Washington to lobby for the rights of victims of bizarre injuries, and meets a conniving politician (Gyllenhaal) who takes advantage of her affliction.

Of course we can't be sure, but it appears we may be in line for some nudity here. Gyllenhaal is obviously down (with girls? we're not sure...) and after Powder Blue hits theaters we'll have a better idea to what extent Biel is.

David O. Russell, director of Three Kings, and I Heart Huckabees, will get behind the camera shooting a script he penned along with Al Gore's daughter, Kristin.

LATEST: Sexy actress Jessica Biel has turned down the chance to play comic book superhero WONDER WOMAN, according to reports.

The Illusionist star, 25, was last week (26Sep07) said to be in talks to take on the role in the forthcoming George Miller-directed movie Justice League Of America.

But U.S. publication Entertainment Weekly claims Biel has followed in Kate Beckinsale's footsteps and declined the part.

The film will follow the adventures of an elite group of superheroes, including Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Aquaman and the Flash.

Jessica Biel not playing Wonder Woman

The rumors had seemed so promising, but as usual, they were just not meant to be, as the lovely Jessica Biel has passed on an offer to play Wonder Woman in the up-coming life adaptation of Justice League of America.

It has been reported earlier in the week that the I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry star was going to step into some superhero tights and play the marvelous DC Comics character Wonder Woman . However, in a report from Entertainment Weekly, the site has said that, "actress Jessica Biel has decided to pass on playing Wonder Woman in Warner Bros. live-action adaptation of Justice League of America. The former 7th Heaven star had been in early talks to play the Amazonian princess. She's currently shooting the drama Powder Blue with Forest Whitaker."

That means that Warner Bros. the studio bringing the Justice League of America movie to the big screen, and director George Miller, who will helm the upcoming project, are back to square one. Jessica Biel was the first rumored casting for the long-awaited project, and it seems that the announcement jumped the gun. However, more names are being rumored for roles on the upcoming live-action film, as IESB.net reports that rapper T.I., whose real name is Clifford Joseph Harris Jr. has recently read for the part of the Green Lantern. But until he gets cast in the part, fans will have to settle for seeing T.I. play the nephew of Denzel Washington's drug kingpin character in American Gangster.

The rest of Justice League of America remains wide open, in terms of who might be brought in to play the roles of Superman, Batman, Flash or any of the other characters associated with the DC Comics property. In fact, in remains to be seen which characters will be considered for the script. Don't hold your breath for the final product either, as it isn't expected to come out until at least late 2009, or more likely, 2010.

UGO leaks details of JLA movie

Underground Online has a major report today on some details of the upcoming Justice League of America flick in a blog posting entitled Justice League of America - Exclusive Leaks. You know the one that just got an awesome director in George Miller and seems real close to signing Jessica Biel to play Wonder Woman?

As they write at UGO, "Justice League of America is one of the new flicks in development that’s getting a tremendous amount of attention. It’s a comic book lover’s dream come true: they’re not just seven of the most powerful superheroes from the DC universe that decide to team up to fight crime together, the JLA comprises several of the most recognizable and iconic superheroes of all-time. You could make the case that not everyone knows who The Flash or Green Lantern are, and that only those that venture into comic book stores will know who Martian Manhunter is, but show a kid anywhere in the world a drawing of Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman and s/he will know what their names are. The only guy in Marvel’s pantheon of heroes that can probably rank as well known as the holy trinity of DC is Spider-Man."

So, what does UGO drop in Justice League of America - Exclusive Leaks? We won't give you all the details. You should head over to Back Row Chatter on UGO for those, but here's a few interesting tidbits - There's no sign of Aquaman in the leaked script. Some of the elements come straight from the comic book. Their source compares Wonder Woman to Angelina Jolie - Jessica Biel might be the perfect fit.

There's a TON more details including reference to what they call an "Empire spoiler." You'll want to check out the Justice League of America - Exclusive Leaks as soon as possible and get your comments in the growing section.

Jessica Biel might play Wonder Woman
BY: Actress Archives | Tuesday, September 25, 2007
ADVERTISEMENT
In a bit of perfect casting news, the super-buff and super-hot Jessica Biel is being rumored to grab the lasso and board the invisible plane as Wonder Woman in Warner Brothers all-star superhero flick Justice League of America. The project has been building buzz quickly in the last few weeks with George Miller joining the project as director and everyone wondering who could fill the very big shoes of Superman, Batman, the Flash, Aquaman, and, of course, Wonder Woman. It was revealed a few weeks ago that this project was going to take off quickly and that Christian Bale and Brandon Routh would not be reprising their Batman and Superman roles from their respective franchises, meaning that we would get a whole new cast of A-list superheroes. It looks like Jessica Biel would be the first.

According to today's Variety, Jessica Biel is filming Powder Blue, a film with Forest Whitaker that will wrap in October and she'll then move into A Woman of No Importance based on the legendary play. It looks like Justice League of America would happen after that but before the strike. That means that Warner Brothers had to move quickly and get this cast together because pre-production on a project like this one can take a while. The studio has declined comment on who will play any of the roles, including rumors about Jessica Biel.

Justice League of America has been written by Kieran and Michele Mulroney and has already been pegged as a project that could create its own spin-off, in much the same way that Hugh Jackman will spin Wolverine off The X-Men franchise. In other words, if Jessica Biel is playing Wonder Woman, you can expect Warner Brothers to try and nail her down to not only multiple JLA films but her own series of films. Wonder Woman had long been in development at Warner Brothers with a number of directors and writers attached over the years. Maybe this could get her off the ground, so to speak.

The 25-year-old Jessica Biel broke through in 7th Heaven in 1996 and on the big screen in Ulee's Gold in 1997 and went on to star in Summer Catch, Rules of Attraction, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Cellular, Blade: Trinity, Stealth, Elizabethtown, The Illusionist, Home of the Brave, Next, and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.

Biography

Early life
Biel was born in Ely, Minnesota, daughter of Kimberly (Kim) Biel (née Conroe) and Jonathan Edward Biel, an entrepreneur.[1] She is of mixed Native American (Choctaw) and European (German, French, Irish and English) ancestry.[citation needed] Biel, who has a younger brother, Justin, grew up in Boulder, Colorado, where her family had moved when she was very young. She initially trained to become a vocalist with the hope of performing in musical theater and appeared in several musicals at an early age including The Sound of Music, Annie, Beauty and the Beast and Anything Goes.

Biel aboard USS Abraham Lincoln, June 15, 2004It was not until Biel attended the International Modeling and Talent Association Convention in Los Angeles in 1994 when her career started to take off as a fashion model.

Rise to fame (1996-2002)Biel's first big break came when at 14 years old she landed the role of Mary Camden on the WB TV Series 7th Heaven. The family drama from Aaron Spelling and Brenda Hampton became the most popular series on the fledgling network. Jessica's film career also began at age 15 when she played alongside Peter Fonda in his Golden Globe winning performance in Ulee's Gold (1997). Aside from acting, Jessica became a spokesmodel for L'Oréal cosmetics in 2002.

In 2000, Biel posed topless in a layout of Gear magazine, although she did not actually appear frontally nude. It was nonetheless controversial because she was only 17 at the time of the shoot. Her frustration and fear about being typecast was one of the reasons that led to her decision. She blamed her saintly image on 7th Heaven for limiting her film career, including losing a lead role in American Beauty, which eventually went to Thora Birch. Jessica also hoped that by posing she would get out of her 7th Heaven contract, which she accomplished. She later said she regretted posing for the magazine and regards it as a learning experience. Jessica returned to 7th Heaven full time for the 2001—2002 season and then focused her attention on her movie career and has made minimal TV appearances since then. In 2002, she also had a role in the film The Rules of Attraction based on a novel by Bret Easton Ellis.

[edit] Film stardom (2003-2005)
After her departure from 7th Heaven, she accepted the role of Erin Hardesty in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003). The movie was met with moderate critical attention, but was successful commercially making over 80 million dollars stateside with its 9 million dollar budget. She has also had starring roles in Blade: Trinity (2004) and Stealth (2005), the latter of which was a box-office flop, losing $99 million USD. Biel was also rumored to be up for the part of Elizabeth in The Fog (a part originated by scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis). Later reports stated Biel did not want to do any more horror films. The part eventually went to Maggie Grace of Lost. Turning down the role proved to be a wise move: the remake was a box office flop, which had been predicted by various critics, as the film was not screened for the press prior to its release. After a nearly three year absence, Jessica surprised her fans by making one final appearance in the series finale of 7th Heaven in May 2006. The series was later renewed, at last minute, for an 11th and, as it turned out, final season. Biel did not make any future appearances in the show.

[edit] Breakthrough (2006-present)
After several indifferent feature films, her film career finally blossomed when she played a turn-of-the-century duchess in The Illusionist (2006), which received good reviews and generated a profit at the box office.[2] In 2006, she also starred Home of the Brave, about soldiers returning from Iraq,[3] premiered in Los Angeles on December 5, 2006.[4] She next starred opposite Adam Sandler in the comedy I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, which went to number one at the box office, making 34 million dollars in its opening weekend, followed by Next, which also starred Nicholas Cage and Julianne Moore. She is slated to appear in at least two more films in 2008: A Woman of No Importance, based on the play by Oscar Wilde about a woman's past which comes back to haunt her when the man who left her with a child becomes the potential employer of their illegitimate son. Taking over Lindsay Lohan's part, it is set to begin filming in the fall of 2007. She'll also appear in Powder Blue, opposite Forest Whitaker, about four desperate individuals who intersect in Los Angeles on Christmas Eve. She was supposedly offered the role of Wonder Woman in the upcoming Justice League film, but (according to one report) she turned the role down.[5] She signed up United Artists's upcoming movie Die a Little.[6]

Personal life

Biel on board Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego Bay, July 17, 2005Biel attended the exclusive private Lycée Français de Los Angeles high school. In fall 2000, she enrolled in an undergraduate study at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. Having attended there during fall 2000, spring 2001 and fall 2002 semesters, she left before completing a degree program to concentrate on her acting career.

Biel's hobbies include ballet, soccer, running, yoga and hiking. Biel currently resides in Los Angeles. She dated actor Chris Evans from 2001 to 2006, with at least one time "off" during that period.[7] Together, they appeared in the films London and Cellular. She also dated another fellow actor, Adam LaVorgna, who portrayed the character of Robbie in 7th Heaven, for about two years. Jessica had been linked to New York Yankees star shortstop Derek Jeter.[8][9][10]

In January 2007, Biel was linked to singer Justin Timberlake when pictures surfaced of the two snowboarding in Park City, Utah during the Sundance Film Festival. On May 12, 2007, the gossip was refueled with the release of romantic pictures of Timberlake and Biel on multiple dates, specifically caught kissing while dining in the UK accompanied by producer/mogul Timbaland and the Manchester United (at the time) footballer Alan Smith.[11][12]

Charity work
On July 18, 2006, Biel auctioned herself for a charity event to help raise money for medical expenses for Colorado teen Molly Bloom, who lost her leg and part of her pelvis in an auto accident. The winning bid for the lunch date with Biel was $30,000. John Schiffner, originally from Fergus Falls, Minnesota, was the winning bidder. Biel quipped, "I promise, I'm a cheap date." The charity event raised $38,000 total. The lunch date was set for August 18, 2006.[13] Biel and her date lunched at Denver's restaurant The Palm.[14]
